Born in South Africa to Spanish parents, Alicia Suarez received her BFA in Art and Printmaking from Port Elizabeth Technikon of Art and Design in South Africa and her MFA in Spain from the University of Sevilla's School of Fine Art. She has participated in dozens of individual and collective shows in Barcelona, Granada, Rotterdam, Johannesburg and New York.  She is past recipient of the Erasmus Arts Scholarship and has held teaching positions in printmaking at the University of Sevilla.
Suarez is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes including: The 7th International CEC Painting Award (finalist), The 2005 Huelva Young Artist Award (winner), The 2005 Penagos Prize (finalist), City of Taipei Printmaking Competition (finalist), Ateneo Sevilla Printmaking Prize (winner). Her works are in the collections of the European Union in Brussels and the Fine Arts Foundation of Seville.
Several of her works reflect her upbringing in Afiica: pigments, textures and representations of the human figure and nature. Her technique which combines impeccable suggestive collage and mixed media with precise and meticulous drawing is unique.
