Works in Jan’s Heroes series celebrate virtues of icons from popular culture, and his female heroes in the series trace representations of women in popular culture relative to their positions of power.
The fourth lady in his series, in which Jan traces representations of power and independence on the part of iconic women in popular culture, Light of The World, presents an appropriation of a poster from the 1968 film Barbarella starring Jane Fonda, as the first-ever female super-hero portrayed on film.
