Straight Shot in Silk
Straight Shot in Silk is a custom underfoot edition of Jan’s colorfield work Straight Shot in Chinese bamboo silk, hand-woven and meticulously trimmed by cottage-industry artisanal weavers in Nepal.
Utilizing the colors of Jan’s favorite billiard ball, the 15 ball, which is red and black, with a red stripe moving through its center, Straight Shot is a reflection on “the virtue of being straightforward, honest, and true in one’s dealings in the world.
Like the other square colorfield prints in the Pixelated Fabric series, this work is brightest toward the center and darkest toward the edges, expressing Jan’s opinion that social progress is best pursued through paths of moderation, toward the center of the political spectrum, steering clear of the extremes of left, right, and radicalized political rhetoric.
